PRIVATE ISLAND
(A SERIES)

During working trips to Oahu over the past dozen or so years, especially during model shoots with my partner and fellow artist, Jack Balas, I find myself entering what feels like a private space. It's as if we've been transported offshore, the group of us, to a secret, uninhabited island. The outside world is suspended, and we're temporarily marooned in the pristine setting, without phone or Internet service, released from the demands of time, schedules, and even to a degree language. Another reality emerges from beyond the conceptual, a wordless realm that feels completely innocent. It is this reality I have attempted to capture in paint.
